Room Parent Roles & Responsibilities
The primary role of Room Parents is to work together as a team to plan and carry out two class parties during the school year: a Holiday Party and an End-of-Year Party. Historically, these have taken place on the last day before Winter Break and the last day of school; however, dates are subject to change.
Room Parents are responsible for planning the parties, coordinating supplies, and carrying out the activities. Party planning is the responsibility of the Room Parents—not the teacher or school staff. Room Parents may create a supply list for the teacher to share with all families in the class, giving parents who are not serving as Room Parents an opportunity to contribute.
All party plans must be approved by the teacher. Each teacher may choose how involved they would like to be in the planning process.
Communication Coordinator
All Room Parents are equal members of the team. To keep communication simple and organized, one Room Parent from each homeroom will be designated as the Communication Coordinator by Mrs. Mielinski. The selected Communication Coordinator will be required to attend an after school meeting with Mrs. Mielinski on 10/26.
The Communication Coordinator will serve as the main point of contact between the teacher, Room Parents, and PTO. PTO will communicate directly with the Coordinator, who will:
Share PTO and teacher information with the Room Parent team. Communicate with the teacher regarding classroom and volunteer needs. Bring any questions or concerns from the Room Parent team to the PTO Board.
The Communication Coordinator is not “in charge” of the other Room Parents—their role is simply to help keep communication organized and make sure everyone receives the same information.
If you would like to be considered for the Communication Coordinator role, please select that option at the bottom of this form.
Note: All Room Parents must be PTO Members with a cleared background check. If you have not registered as a member of the FAA PTO, you can do so now by clicking Join the PTO at the top the page. Then please fill out the annual WSISD Volunteer Background Check that can be found at the bottom of the main page at FAAPTO.com.
